Ambition is... [choose one] a) good b) bad c) out of my way, losers, I'm trying to reach my goals d) what was the question?
What if ambition could be sustainable? Join us this Sunday to find out how.
Were you an ambitious child? Did you dream of becoming a movie star or an astronaut or a ship captain? Or did you make daisy chains on the soccer field while your friends ran up and down the field kicking each other in the shins? Are you a parent who finds their child’s tireless ambition and 24/7 work ethic a little scary or a parent who worries that without your relentless pushing, your child will gather moss? And how have your own ambitions changed between childhood and adulthood?
This Sunday, July 13 at 9 am Pacific, we will be unpacking ambition—the good, the bad, and the nuanced—during a live Zoom session of our July Curmudgeon Chat. Our topic is “Ambition, Exhaustion, and Balance (for kids AND grown-ups!)” and will feature a discussion with work-life coach and speaker Kathy Oneto, whose recently published book, Sustainable Ambition, addresses many of the themes that run through this Substack—particularly, the role ambition plays in our own lives and the lives of our kids and ways in which we can find balance between striving and our own true north, pursuing our goals without letting them consume us. Kathy is brilliant, insightful, and generous, and I know you’ll enjoy meeting her. More info about her work—and her book—can be found here.
Paid subscribers will receive a Zoom link this Saturday. I hope to see many of you there—and I want to hear about how your ambitions (for yourself and your child(ren)) have evolved!
Can't wait to be in conversation with you and your community, Irena!
